A case of femicide from ninety years ago. On the night between Saturday, February 4, and Sunday, February 5, 1933, in the hamlet of Sant’Antonio di Tortal (Borgo Valbelluna – Belluno – Italy), the young Emma Canton from Confos was brutally murdered by her peer Abele De Barba, with whom she had been in a romantic relationship. The story, reconstructed through the trial records preserved in the State Archives of Venice, is documented in the book Omicidio di Emma Canton by Roberto De Nart, a journalist from Belluno. It is the story of a horrific murder, both for the methods used by the killer and for the fact that Emma was two months pregnant as a result of her relationship with De Barba, which had since ended.
